The National Alliance for Nutrition and Activity (the NANA Coalition), has developed a comprehensive set of model school wellness policies that comply with the requirements included in the 2004 Child Nutrition Reauthorization for districts that run federally-funded school meals programs. The model policies are based on nutrition science, public health research, and best practices from states and local school districts.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conduct a comprehensive assessment of school health programs in the U.S. every six years. SHPPS 2006 describes key school health policies and practices in the areas of health education, physical education and activity, health services, mental health and social services, nutrition services, healthy and safe school environments, faculty and staff health promotion, and family and community involvement.
The National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) issued a policy guide with model policies based on best practices, which can be adapted by states, school districts, public schools, and private schools.
